about Crosspoint

who we are

Our purpose is in our name, to point people to the cross of Jesus Christ because nowhere is the grace of God to us more clearly displayed than at the cross.

It is grace that Jesus, the Son of God, took on flesh, and grace that He taught us how to live — but it is especially grace that He died on the cross in our place.

Matthew 28:16–20

a church on a mission

our mission

At CrossPoint we believe that every person's story matters to God. We are on a mission to communicate that truth and to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus .

That journey of growth, for each one of us, begins at the cross and revisits the cross each day as we walk by faith in the Lord Jesus. That is why we point to the cross. A life we couldn't imagine is possible because of Jesus' death on the cross. He has given us a new life, an abundant life, an eternal life!

our strategy

Our strategy is grace immersion. We want to immerse people in God’s grace because a lot of people are either cynical about Christianity and the church or they are confused about what His message is. We immerse our area in the grace of Christ through practical acts of service that show God’s love and through sharing God’s love found in the good news of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ.

our values

Everything we do at CrossPoint is organized under four values: Gather, Grow, Give, and Go. In the Gathering, we grow in relationship with  Jesus as God speaks to us individually while we meet corporately to worship Him. In Growth Groups, we grow stronger faith through relationships. We give by serving others. When we serve others, we experience God working through us and we help others grow in their relationship with Jesus. We go to share the gospel; sharing the gospel is how others are invited into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Loretta Christensen

    Office manager & communicationS

After many years in the Midwest, first in Chicago, now in Hutchinson, I am finally acclimated. I grew up in the mountains in Oregon and spent seven years at the Grand Canyon, where Jesus drew me to Himself. I went from death to life and couldn't wait to tell everyone about him. A few years later, I received my B.A. in Christian Ministries/nonprofit management and Biblical Studies at Trinity International University.

I moved to Hutchinson to marry Greg in 2012, the best nurse and husband a girl can have. I was excited to be a part of this church community as I sensed God at work illuminating the gospel to those who knew him religiously but not personally. I love my job communicating to the CrossPoint Church family and supporting the ministry programs. It is my hope and prayer that we continue to proclaim the gospel faithfully and clearly, out of overflowing hearts, gratified by His mercy and grace.

about crosspoint

WE BELIEVE

STATEMENT OF FAITH

about people

We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual death which is separation from God, and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and are guilty sinners in thought, word, and deed. (Genesis 1:26,27; 3:1-24; Romans 3:25; 5:12-18; 1 John 1:8) We believe that the Lord Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; that He rose victorious from the grave on the third day; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. (Isaiah 53; Matthew 20:28; John 3:16; Romans 3:24-26; 5:1; 1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 2:2; Matthew 28:6 Romans 10:9; 1 Corinthians 15:14) We believe that all who come by grace through faith to accept the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. (John 3:3, 5; 1:12,13; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23; Ephesians 2:8,9)

about god

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1,26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,3; 4:24; Acts 5:3,4; Romans 1:20; Ephesians 4:5, 6; 2 Corinthians 13:14) We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. (Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13)

ABOUT THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is the verbally and plenarily inspired Word of God, inerrant in its original manuscripts. The Bible is our supreme and final authority in faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21)

about the church

We believe that those who partake of the Lord’s Supper should be born-again believers, walking in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 2:42-46; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29) We believe that as Christians we are to meet together regularly for worship, ordinances, and the encouragement of each other. (Hebrews 10:24, 25; Acts 2:42, 46, 47a)

ABOUT CHRIST'S RETURN

We believe in the personal and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Act 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17) We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting joy of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. (John 5:28-29; 1 Corinthians 15; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 20:4-6; 11-15)

Converge is a movement of churches working to help people meet, know and follow Jesus.

A church on a mission for over 135 years

history of CrossPoint

CrossPoint Church's story begins with a religious unbeliever experiencing a new birth in Christ. Hans Gravenslund attended the State Church of Denmark and considered himself a Christian. However, when he heard an evangelist preach the gospel, he realized he had yet to be born again as a follower of Jesus. Hans and a small group of people withdrew from the State Church and began conducting services on their own. They called themselves "Followers of Christ".

Hans and his family moved to the United States to settle in Mankato. On their way there, they stopped at a farm in the Hutchinson area to hang their clothes to dry. As they took in the beauty of the area, they decided that Hutchinson would be a good place to live and decided to stay. In 1880 Hans gathered a small group of believers for worship, prayer, and bible study. This gathering of believers grew, and they needed a building to accommodate their size better. They built their first church but soon outgrew it. They then moved into a larger building and, upon doing so, adopted the name Franklin St. Baptist Church.

In 1980, the congregation outgrew their meeting space again and sought land to build a new church. They found ground in southwest Hutchinson, our current location. During this transition, the church renamed itself Shalom Baptist Church to communicate its desire to be a welcoming place of peace for people to meet and know God.

Shalom Baptist had a vision in 2012 for expanding its facilities to fulfill the mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus. A building campaign was launched to double the size of the existing church building, and the project was completed in 2015. During this time, the church changed its name to CrossPoint Church to better communicate its mission and connect with people in the community.

Today, our mission remains to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We come from a rich legacy of believers who were passionate about knowing God and sharing the good news of Jesus with others, and we continue to carry on that mission today over 135 years later.
